Publisher's summary
Step into the abyss of horror and dark fiction with To Hell and Back…where each story is a gateway to the unimaginable.
To Hell and Back serves as a mosaic of contemporary fears and timeless terrors, curated and edited by the Bram Stoker Award-winning Joe Mynhardt. This collection of horror stories brings together a diverse array of tales from both beloved and emerging voices in the horror genre, each story a unique exploration of the dark corners of the human psyche.
With an introduction by Lee Murray, this horror anthology includes disturbing tales by Jeff Strand, Gage Greenwood, Gregg Stewart, Jasper Bark, Kenneth W. Cain, James Aquilone, Taylor Grant, Colin J. Northwood, Chad Lutzke, Felix Blackwell, J.P. Behrens, Bridget Nelson, Jay Bechtol, Nick Roberts, Kyle Toucher, Diana Olney, Devin Cabrera, Naching T. Kassa, John Durgin, Francesca Maria, James H. Longmore, and Rowan Hill.
To Hell and Back invites listeners on a journey through cityscapes and small towns, into office blocks and family homes, along lonely roads, and wooded trails. It confronts external threats like predators and cults as well as internal battles with ambition, mental illness, and moral weakness. Themes of road rage, childhood trauma, the horrors of war, and the supernatural intertwine, offering a chilling snapshot of contemporary societal fears. With stories that range from political and cultural tensions to tales of creeping unease, this anthology not only aims to terrify but also to offer a means of confronting and reflecting on our fears from a safe distance.
Uncover the shadows lurking within and beyond with To Hell and Back—dare to confront your darkest fears.

It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Great spooky stories!
Really great stories! Some of them are spooky, some are creepy and some are downright scary! I’ve never read a book with multiple short stories, so it was a new experience for me. The narrator had the best voice for this book!
Random side note I thought was funny and super helpful in my life… I sometimes transport animals for our local animal shelter and had a 30 minute drive back and forth to take some dogs for medical surgery. They were extremely loud!!! I turned the music off in the van and thought maybe I would try listening to a book (I was in the middle of this one). I kid you not, within a minute of turning this on they were silent for the whole trip! When I picked them up it was the same thing, super loud and crazy, I quickly turned this book back on and it was silent! They loved the narrator’s voice! It’s very soothing and enjoyable to listen to.

A cornucopia of horror
As it says in the forward, not every story in this anthology was for me. I did enjoy them all and thought that they were all well-written. There are quite a few of the stories that I would happily go back to and listen to again I thought the narrator did a great job, the fact that there were 22 different stories and it didn't seem like any of the character voices were duplicated. I could be wrong, but it didn't seem like there were a lot of voices that were recycled.

Many of these tales were very creepy and the narrators voice and delivery tied everything together perfectly!
A very interesting collection of stories, there was one in particular that was so vivid it was almost hard to listen to! The narrator did such a good job bringing every character to life in their own unique way through all the different stories! I highly recommend checking out this horror story book!
