Publisher's summary

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a new, STANDALONE novel…

ABBY:

I’m falling for the father of the baby I’m carrying.

The problem is: it’s not my baby. And the broody widower is not looking for a long-term partner.

As a surrogate, the deal was that I’d only be in England long enough to give birth.

At first, the man seemed as pretentious as his name: Sigmund Benedictus. He and I butted heads.

Sig challenged my intentions, accused me of just wanting to do this for the money.

Gradually, he learned to trust me.

He even became protective. Over time, our heated animosity turned into fiery chemistry.

I was falling in love with him. But my time here had a limit. I needed to protect my heart from the devastatingly gorgeous older man who’d end up breaking it.

SIG:

When my in-laws told me they wanted to use my dead wife’s eggs to conceive a grandchild, I wasn’t immediately on board. They swore that on her deathbed Britney told them it was what she wanted—but only if I fathered the baby. Her parents insisted they would be the ones to raise it.

Against my better judgment, I agreed.

I vowed to keep my heart out of it, though.

I’d continue to pretend it wasn’t happening and live the empty, single life I’d become accustomed to the past five years since Britney died.

And despite the fact that a certain younger American named Abby Knickerbocker had awakened things inside me that I thought were long dead…

I most certainly wouldn’t fall in love with the surrogate.

So good

Another great and heartwarming romance by Penelope. The narrator’s really brought the story of Sig and Abby to life.

Ugh! I love the LOVE 🥺

I love this book! I love Penelope’s writing style! There’s never a dull moment! Every word is genuine! As I read, things became familiar, I didn’t realize it was a sequel to the aristocrat!! Both books are amazing as standalone, but do yourself a favor and read both! The narration was top notch! Thank you for selecting the best!

Perfect!

Such a beautifully written book that handles complex subject matter thoughtfully. Excellent read. The narrators did a great job with the characters as well.

A new twist

Loved this story! A new twist on baby mamas. It had feels and funnies. Nothing better than Jacob Morgan with an English accent too! Highly recommend both books in this series.

Loved this!!!!

I loved this story so much!! The storyline is absolutely perfect to me. I've dealt with both subjects from this story which is surrogacy & cancer which sucks by the way!!!

I adored this story!

I absolutely adored this story!

In a series of by chance encounters, a woman from the USA becomes a surrogate for a grumpy British guy. I had some concern about the possible angst of the surrogacy using eggs by the beloved late wife, instead it was so very beautiful.

There is push and pull between the grumpy Brit and the sweet surrogate. But, chemistry between the two made it difficult for them to maintain a platonic relationship. The support characters were a key part of making all of this work.

I read and listened to this story. The audio is perfection!

Holy. Moly.

This book FAR exceeded my expectations. I thought I would hate Sig but I ended up loving him so much. Also can I just say that I was very pleased for the in-laws to not be villains in this story. It was nice that he had such a sweet on-going relationship with them.

Great story with amazing performances and unique story line 5 stars!!

Outstanding

I do not know how Penelope Ward continues to come up with these stories as when I read the blurb for this book, I could not wait to read it. Penelope Ward has delivered a fabulous read and in fact is one of my top reads EVER. Once I started, I could not put this book down.

From the first paragraph I was totally invested in Sig and Abby’s story. This was a well written, steamy, story with so much emotion, heart, and soul as it deals with loss, and it brought me to tears on occasion.

We first met Sigmund Benedictus (Sig) in The Aristocrat (one of my favourite books) and I knew his story was going to be worth the wait and it was. The characters were engaging and easy to fall in love with and though they were opposites they were well suited to one another.

The journey that Sig and Abby went through was a roller coaster of emotions that brought me to my knees and left me with one heck of a book hangover.Jacob Morgan and Desiree Ketchum were outstanding with their perforamces and boy did they bring all the emotions to their performances.

One click this little gem, you won’t be disappointed.
