It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Story
It's been three long years since Deadbreak. That's what everyone's calling it - the day the dead rose. Every day since then, Jeremiah Reid has had one goal: to make his way back to his daughter. With his four-legged companion, Joe, Jeremiah has to travel a lawless wasteland teeming with zombies, bandits, and worse, like people who put anchovies on pizza (you know who you are). It's a new world out there, and no one is safe. People are weary, cities are in ruin, supplies are scarce, and brains are on the menu.

When a series of devastating terror attacks brought down the United States, Conor and Barb assumed they were safe in their compound. They had everything they needed. They were armed and highly trained. But then, Barb was kidnapped. The kidnappers didn’t know why Conor was known as The Mad Mick. They didn’t know the fear and respect his name invoked in the shadowy underworld of covert operations. They didn’t know that when it came to protecting his family, he was without conscience, without compassion, and without equal. But they would soon find out.

Story
Greed, terrorism, and simple bad luck conspire to bring mankind to its knees as a viral infection spreads out of control, reducing those infected to undead horrors that feed upon the rest. It's a time of misery and death for most, however there are some who are lucky, some who are ruthless, and some who are just too damned tough to go down without a fight. This is their story.

Publisher's summary
Collected here are the first four books of the eight books, best-selling epic Adrian's Undead Diary.
The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived.
Book One: Dark Recollections: Beheading a zombie isn't easy in a world where you're more afraid of the living than the dead. Adrian Ring's simple life is thrown into chaos when the world is ripped apart by a plague of undead and legions of desperate survivors. Retreating to Auburn Lake Prep Academy, Adrian attempts to rescue friends and family on the way while dancing around his impending insanity over who and what he left behind, and evading maniac survivors. He saves his cat Otis, but shoots his mom. Pretty , all things considered. Of course, his sanity takes a hit as a result.
Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal", and through short stories that entwine with his tales that bring forth dark visions of a world being eaten alive by an unimaginable evil.
AUD is an eight part epic about a solitary, guilt stricken man that didn't think he deserved to live, but realizes very soon that he survived, and suffered for a reason.
This collection contains Dark Recollections, Alone No More, Midnight, and The Failed Coward, four full-length novels following the end of the world as witnessed by Adrian Ring.

When the end finally occurred, everything about it was cinematic. The dead came back and ate people, civilization collapsed, and no one could do a thing. But Cyrus V. Sinclair couldn’t care less; he’s a sociopath. Amidst the chaos, Cyrus sits back and contemplates the gore stained streets and screams of his fellow man with little more emotion than one of the walking corpses. With his cache of guns and MREs, he rather likes the idea of hunkering down in his Seattle apartment while the world ends outside.

It’s been 12 years since the undead hordes swept over the earth, forcing mankind to the brink of extinction. We now live like rats, scavenging in the ruins of our fallen civilization as the dead hunt us night and day. There is little left to scavenge, however. Grocery stores were emptied ages ago, gas tanks have long been dry, and bullets are so precious that a man is lucky to have two to his name. Still, we survive. But for how much longer?

Definitely entertaining
I worked at a wilderness residential treatment center for near a decade, this is a very similar scenario that I had spent much time thinking about and was included in lock-down drills (sans zombies, but it was a topic of conversation).
There are minor detail discrepancies that may be more prevalent to some people more than others, but this is still a greatly entertaining series.
-Can confirm, banana boxes are the sh*t. At the facility, we received them weekly from the food bank and I subsequently moved 85% of my belongings with them when I finally purchased a home. You can stand on an empty one or transport a banana box full of raw materials, if you so desire. Sounds odd, but they’re the best boxes ever constructed.

My new favorite
I am horrible at writing in-depth reviews so my apologies for this lacking details.
This is by far my new favorite series. I have listened to a lot zombie books & this is by far my favorite.
The narration is excellent.
I really appreciate it starting at the beginning of the zombie event & not months or years later. So many authors skip the start for some reason.

Good sarcasm and humor, definitely enjoyable
I have enjoyed the series and the main character. I like the way there is self doubt sometimes and questioning of the situation that the characters find themselves in. Some really great plot development through the books.
There is always that aspect of male writers describing the appearance of women in a lot of detail, and nothing wrong with that, but I would appreciate the same detail of the male characters as well :) If there is such a high number of attractive women, then surely the men should be just as attractive.
I have seen a lot of recommendations to pick up this series, and I have enjoyed it, but it doesn't quite make it to the favorites list. Not quite sure why yet, maybe I have not been able to really "bond" to the characters as with other series, maybe because Adrian keeps himself at a distance as well. But I will be following through with the other books in the series.
The narration is top notch.

Dear Mr Journal
I found a really good Zombie book. The book had everything from surviving, thugs, survivors, lost live, cool cat, battles, new love, new friends, bites and bleeding and obviously Adrian is a great main character & lots of Zombie encounters..... military guy too.
Oh l, and some funny one liners too.
Anyways, whoever finds this diary and reads this the book is worth the credit or cash.
The narrator was great too!! Perfect in every way for sure!!
PS. I knew you were going to say "Hope". ;)
