Publisher's summary

In Elfhame, bargains are currency, lies are weapons, and your heart is your greatest weakness.

Reeling from Bastian's revelations, Kat wakes from her dire illness wanting nothing more than to sever all ties with the man who betrayed her. But fate has a different plan—she's trapped in Elfhame, the fae realm where nothing is as it seems. And worse, she's trapped with him, reliant on his touch to stave off a poison that threatens her very life.

Thrust into the center of Dusk and Dawn Courts, they must balance the two in order to maintain a delicate peace. But in a world where alliances are forged and shattered in a heartbeat, danger looms. A mysterious group infiltrates the city, and spies whisper of an ancient artifact powerful enough to destroy an entire court.

As enemies close in from all sides and attacks on the city escalate, Kat and Bastian must unearth deadly secrets and their own complicated feelings to survive—or risk a war to destroy faekind itself.

Full of betrayal, bargains, and broken hearts, A Touch of Poison is the spellbinding second book in Shadows of the Tenebris Court, a searing romantic fantasy trilogy perfect for fans of The Bridge Kingdom and A Court of Thorns and Roses. Intended for mature listeners.

Better story progression, rough narration

I don’t like to bash on narrators, but I have to agree with the other review’s, the male narrator was not it for this book. The out of place inhales made all of Bastians chapters feel like one big run on sentence that I would just start tuning out. That’s the best I can explain it. The story line moved along at a decent pace. A little predictable. I do like the characters though and am sticking around for their banter and sass.

Love Fae Romance

Such a great story. I just wish they kept to 1 narrator. The female narrator is amazing the male not so much. He takes this weird inhale at the end of every sentence and very monotonous way of speaking. Plus when he reads the writing sounds very amateurish and the male lead sound week. But when the female narrator is reading the story is captivating and the male lead is very appealing!

Loved the ups and downs…

This is definitely a unique story and slow burn, but once the match strikes - it burns! Loved the cliffhanger as well, but I couldn’t stop hearing the breath that Liam would take after every line. Pretty soon it was all I could hear. He has such a lovely voice, I wish I didn’t hyper focus like I did. Either way, excited for the next installment.

Everything! Ahh!!! So amazing!! It’s not a perfect story of course! But amazing!!!

I LOVED it!!! And I was soo happy that our main characters here found their passion for each other, well honestly! I think they’re at the beginning of something great! Haha! I love it, narrators were alright, tho I have to agree that the voice for Bastian was breathy haha! But I feel like don’t change the narrator for him now bc someone different may ruin it but I don’t know! It was good! Got used to it!
But an Awesome and Wonderful read cannot wait for book 3!!!! :):):)

Ruined with the male narrator

I couldn’t even follow the book when it came to the male narrator chapter because he doesn’t follow punctuation and feels like he is saying the entire thing as one sentence. Not to mention his terrible inflection. He absolutely ruined this series

Male narrator why

This story is good, and the female narrator was great. But good gracious the male narrator! His voice itself is nice, but the cadence/inflection is terrible. I couldn’t get past it, the female narrator was great I wish she did both perspectives. It’s like every sentence he’s asking a question or something. The way it lifts up at the end of almost every sentence is really difficult to get past, and seems like it would be such an easy thing to fix. How any editor could get through that without commenting is beyond me. Just couldn’t get over it.

Love story and Intrigue

Loved the story telling, the series draws the reader in. Looking forward to devouring more of the series! The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is a little more plot, detail to scenery wanted, with less main character self doubt. I understand some of it was character development.

Love it

Love the book. Love the female narrator. I just can’t with the male narrator, he sounds like a guy on the history channel narrating with no sense of story in his voice. The first book was just her and I lovvvved it. Is there an option where it is just her narrating?

What a trip!

This was more of ride.

HOLY COW IS KAT SUCH A BALLER!!! Her character arc for this book is amazing! I love watching her step into the person she is truly meant to be.

I loved watching Bastian trying not to show his feelings.

the ending! ahhhh.

Sarah and Liam nailed it once again!

I LOVE this series

I am obsessed with fae dark romance and I was pleasantly surprised at the new themes presented here. This is not your typical fae romance book, and it made me really excited to continue listening. I ate the first two audiobooks up like a bowl of fae ice cream 💖 the narrators are SUPERB. At first I was a bit worried about the male narrators voice sounding a bit too radio but it actually suits the character a lot once you learn more about him. I love Kat and I cannot wait for her to finally blossom into the badass she should be in the next book.
There is so much to unpack in the next book, I have a hard time imagining it will all be addressed because there is a lot going on here but hopefully we get another 19-hour listen. 🥰 def going to read more of this author’s novels because she has the perfect amount of story/slow burn spice ratio IMO.
