Historia
Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg. The egg—as eggs are wont to do—decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.” But England has not seen a dragon since…well, ever.

When Katja Heinz secures a job as a typist in Hamburg working for Doctor Viktor’s clinic, she doesn’t expect to be writing up top secret medical records. Doctor Viktor treated soldiers for PTSD at the end of the first world war – and one of the patients was none other than Adolf Hitler.... The notes in his possession declare Hitler unfit for office; exposing such a secret would destroy the Fuhrer's reputation, and perhaps even change the course of the war.

Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

Everyone has a story to tell. But does Janice have the power to unlock her own? She can’t recall what started her collection. Maybe it was in a fragment of conversation overheard as she cleaned a sink? Before long (as she dusted a sitting room or defrosted a fridge) she noticed people were telling her their stories. Perhaps they had always done so, but now it is different, now the stories are reaching out to her and she gathers them to her.

This is heralded as the very first mystery novel. Collins, in his great work, created the guidelines for the genre as we know it today: a fabulous diamond stolen, everyone in the house is suspected, three mysterious Indians sworn to protect the jewel at all costs, the upstairs/downstairs tension from the servants, and a brilliant detective who is eccentrically fond of roses.

Thirty miles off the coast of San Francisco lie the Farallon Islands, known to sailors as the Devil’s Teeth. But Lucy brings treacherous secrets with her, including a name that isn’t hers and a past she can’t escape. On the island, she meets Will Sisson, a mysterious man who seems to recognize her name—but not her face. Wary of Will at first, Lucy slowly starts to trust him.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Resumen del Editor
The basis for Joseph L. Mankiewicz's cinematic romance starring Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison.
Burdened by debt after her husband's death, Lucy Muir insists on moving into the very cheap Gull Cottage in the quaint seaside village of Whitecliff, despite multiple warnings that the house is haunted. Upon discovering the rumors to be true, the young widow ends up forming a special companionship with the ghost of handsome former sea captain Daniel Gregg. Through the struggles of supporting her children, seeking out romance from the wrong places, and working to publish the captain's story as a book, Blood and Swash, Lucy finds in her secret relationship with Captain Gregg a comfort and blossoming love she never could have predicted.
Originally published in 1945, made into a movie in 1947, and later adapted into a television sitcom in 1968, this romantic tale explores how love can develop without boundaries, both in this life and beyond.

In this coming of age story, Dodie Smith introduces the visionary and eccentric character of seventeen-year-old Cassandra Mortmain. Historia
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, (1860-1904), was born in Russia at Taganrog on the Sea of Azov. His name has become synonymous with a certain literary style much admired and widely copied since his death. Typically, a Chekhov story is a "mood", a state of mind, usually with regard to relations between one person and another. Under the influence of the constant, infinitesimal, and unforeseen pinpricks of life, there occurs a gradual transformation of that state of mind.

Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn’s startling book led, almost 30 years later, to Glasnost, Perestroika, and the "Fall of the Wall". One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich brilliantly portrays a single day, any day, in the life of a single Russian soldier who was captured by the Germans in 1945 and who managed to escape a few days later. Along with millions of others, this soldier was charged with some sort of political crime, and since it was easier to confess than deny it and die, Ivan Denisovich "confessed" to "high treason" and received a sentence of 10 years in a Siberian labor camp.

A Good Oldie Made Better
This is a good old story. In spite of the faults, it endures to this day. It is reminiscent of of a golden age Hollywood movie or radio play. Glamorous even though it isn’t the best. The narrator does a fine turn, and convincingly portrays each character and their particular nuance which may not have been so evidently written by the author. It is interpreted by the reader, and we are the lucky listeners.

Timeless strong women
I very much enjoyed this story, given the time it was written in it told of great independence of a strong woman. Yes, it was a man who gave her the idea for financial independence, but it was her willingness to carry out the task she knew needed to be done. Great partnership story.

Utterly sublime
What a wonderful and imaginative story, written with so much detail. I felt i was there. I truly loved every bit of it, and am so glad of the ending. It is the story of a lifetime love relationship between a pretty and kind woman, who had been overpowered in her past, and a moral, wise, and vital ship’s captain, who died years before, and who continues to inhabit the home he built and lived in, that this woman moves into. Just scrumptious!

Loved it
I can’t believe this was a free listen. It was sooo good. The performance was perfect. The story was just as good or maybe better than the movie(if that could be possible).

A classic definitely worth reading
After 75 years, this book still reads well. It’s a great story of love, relationships, family, and independence. The characters are well developed and engaging.

Lucy is dutiful until . . .
I love the movie of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I first saw it as a child. After repeated viewings, it never lost the sense of romance and magic I found on my first viewing. I was delighted to find the audiobook of the novel the movie was based on. The audiobook was as enjoyable as the movie although there are a few differences. The story follows Lucy a dutiful young woman of her age, late Victorian/Edwardian. Lucy was a good child, who married and was a good wife. She had two children and was a good mother. When her husband died, she found herself penniless because her husband had gambled with the stock market. Lucy, now a widow, is living with her husband's family who refers to her (to her face) as "poor. little Lucy). They make all her decisions including those for her children.
Lucy suffers a spell of rebelliousness and moves herself and her children to a house overlooking the sea near a village. The house she chooses is very inexpensive because no tenant stays more than 24 hours. The previous owner does not want new tenants. What follows is a lively story, at times full of joy and others heartbreaking but never, ever boring. Elizabeth Jasicki does a very nice job narrating.
